Creative AI and AIDX open new markets - Beyond Metaverse, Broadcasting and Media Arts

In this session, "Creative AI and AIDX open new markets - Beyond Metaverse, Broadcasting and Media Arts", speaker Akihiko Shirai, Ph.D., who has over 30 years of experience in game engines, museums, media arts, SNS, metaverse R&D, and international educational institutions. He will discuss Creative AI and AIDX (AI Driven user eXperience) and communication, focusing on how they are opening up new markets and impacting the future in disciplines such as the metaverse, broadcasting and media arts continuouslly.

The activities of “AICU Inc.” (AICU.ai) , a creative AI start-up company working in both Japan to US and US to Japan, will be presented, as well as specific recent examples from collaborating companies in the live entertainment and broadcasting industries.

The session will have a discussion part related to the social implementation of generative AI, ethical aspects and specific solution methods will also be addressed, and future prospects will be discussed for the creative domain. Questions from the audience in this domain will provide in-depth insights. Through this presentation, you will gain a deeper understanding of how Creative AI and AIDX can open up new market opportunities.

About Akihiko SHIRAI, Ph.D

Akihiko SHIRAI, Ph.D. (Engineering) is an entrepreneur, inventor, producer, researcher, and book author who has been active in the entertainment virtual reality field since 1997. After studying photographic engineering and getting a good response at SIGGRAPH'97 with his proposal of a multimodal VR experience system called "Fantastic Phantom Slipper", he has been working as an R&D and inventor of interaction technologies, in diverse jobs. His professional career began as a game development consultant for Canon and its group company Criterion Software in the UK, where he popularized and deployed RenderWare, a multi-platform graphics middleware for the game industry. As an academic researcher, he received his PhD in Intelligent Systems Science from Tokyo Institute of Technology in 2004 for his work on the Tangible Playroom, an entertainment system for young children using haptics, floor screens, and a real-time physics engine. Then, until 2007, he worked at ENSAM Presence & Innovation Laboratory in France on projects related to VR theme park development: high-speed computer vision on GPU "GPUVision", robotic game player "RoboGamer", " WiiMedia" projects have been recognized by ACM SIGGRAPH and IEEE VR, etc. Worked as a science communicator and exhibition planner at Miraikan until 2010 Worked as an associate professor at Kanagawa Institute of Technology (KAIT) Information Media until 2018 He is also a member of the board of directors of the National Institute of Advanced Industrial Science and Technology (AIST). Received awards from ministries, academia, and the gaming industry for the simultaneous multiplex video systems Scritter, ExPixel, and ExField, the manga immersive system Manga Generator, and the childcare VR entertainment Real Baby - Real Family From 2018 Visiting Professor at the Graduate School of Digital Hollywood University.Since June 2018, he has launched the "GREE VR Studio Laboratory" within REALITY Corporation, a family of GREE Corporation that promotes the new XR Metaverse industry and is back in the entertainment industry as Research Director. He has pioneered XR live entertainment by conducting research on improving vTubers (Virtual YouTuber, Virtual Persona, Virtual Artist), a set of virtual live enchantment technologies for sharing non-verbal interactions in XR live entertainment. Contributed to the development of new user experiences and solutions for XR live entertainment, including VibeShare, a suite of virtual live enchantment technologies for sharing nonverbal interactions in XR live entertainment, including garment and motion generated UGC using Stable Diffusion and multi-agent UGC using ChatGPT. He has invented numerous metaverse SNS related patents such as AITuber broadcasting system, and is promoting creative inclusion through human resource development, disseminating on the international stage, and workshops. He is also the director of the CreativeAI Lab at the Graduate School of Digital Hollywood University. CEO of "AICU Inc.", an international development company of creative communication and AIDX (AI Driven user eXpreience) in Japan and the United States, and its group companies.
